1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Karmic Compass ("the App"), you agree to be legally bound by these Terms & Conditions ("Terms"). The App is operated by KarmicCompass Private Limited ("we", "us", or "our") and is available at karmiccompass.app. If you do not agree to these Terms in their entirety, you must immediately cease using the App and delete it from your device.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire and legally binding agreement between you and KarmicCompass Private Limited. "You" refers to the individual accessing or using the App.
2. Eligibility & Minimum Age
The minimum age to use this App varies by jurisdiction:
• EU / EEA: 16 years (GDPR Art. 8). If you are under 16 in the EU/EEA, you may only use the App with verifiable parental or guardian consent.
• Germany: 16 years.
• France: 15 years.
• Netherlands, Italy: 16 and 14 years respectively (set by member state law).
• South Korea: 14 years (PIPA).
• Brazil: 18 years without parental consent; 12–17 with parental consent.
• All other jurisdictions: 13 years.
If you are below the applicable minimum age, you must obtain verifiable parental or guardian consent before using the App. By using the App, you represent that you meet the eligibility requirements applicable in your jurisdiction.
3. Account Registration & Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately at app.karmiccompass@gmail.com of any unauthorised access or suspected breach.
We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your account. You may delete your account at any time from the Settings screen within the App.
4. Subscriptions & Billing
Certain features require a paid "Compass" subscription. Pricing, billing period, and trial availability are displayed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store at the time of purchase and may vary by region.
Subscriptions are processed and managed by Apple or Google (via RevenueCat). Your subscription auto-renews monthly unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period via your App Store / Google Play account settings. We do not receive your full payment card details and do not process payments directly.
5. Free Trial
New users receive an 11-day free trial of the Compass plan, beginning from the moment they complete their initial profile setup. No payment method is required and you will not be charged automatically at the end of the trial.
During the trial, you have access to most Compass features, including Arya AI chat, Incognito Mode, Deep Memory, personalised insights, and language preferences. The following restrictions apply during the trial:
• Arya conversations: up to 30 messages per day (Compass subscribers have unlimited messages).
• Summarise: limited to today's summary only (Compass subscribers can generate weekly, monthly, quarterly, 6-month, and yearly summaries).
• Chat history: scroll-back through older archived messages and full chat history search are Compass-only features.
When the trial period ends, the App will present a subscription offer. You must actively choose to subscribe to continue accessing Compass features. If you do not subscribe, your account reverts to the free tier — you are never billed without your explicit action.
Each device is eligible for one free trial. If you have previously completed a trial on the same device under a different account, the trial period will not be available again on that device.
6. Cancellation & Refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you retain access until then.
Refund eligibility and processing are determined by Apple or Google under their respective refund policies. We do not process refunds directly.
EU / EEA & UK — Right of Withdrawal: Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) and UK equivalent, you have a right to withdraw from a digital service contract within 14 days of purchase. By starting to use the App immediately after purchase, you expressly request that service delivery begin before the withdrawal period expires and acknowledge that you thereby waive your right of withdrawal once the digital service has been fully performed or access has begun. Contact app.karmiccompass@gmail.com where a right of withdrawal still applies.
Australian Consumer Law: Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
7. Compass vs Trial vs Free — Feature Comparison
The App operates across three tiers:
── Free Tier (post-trial, no subscription) ──
• Arya chat: up to 10 messages per day (enforced server-side).
• Summarise: today only.
• Chat history: in-memory messages only; no archive access.
• AI context: limited journal history.
── Trial (first 11 days after onboarding) ──
• Arya chat: up to 30 messages per day (enforced server-side).
• Incognito Mode: available.
• Arya settings (language, tone, memory): available.
• Summarise: today only.
• Chat archive scroll-back: not available.
• Full chat history search: not available.
── Compass (paid subscription) ──
• Arya chat: up to 400 messages per day.
• All summarise periods: today, 7 days, 30 days, quarterly, 6 months, 1 year.
• Full chat archive scroll-back and search.
• All features unlocked.
Server-side rate limits apply to all tiers and cannot be bypassed by the client.
8. AI-Generated Content — Not Professional Advice
Arya is an AI-powered personal guide powered by Google's Gemini AI. All content Arya produces is for personal reflection and informational purposes only.
Karmic Compass is NOT intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any physical or mental health condition or disease. Nothing in the App constitutes professional medical, psychiatric, psychological, therapeutic, legal, financial, or any other form of regulated advice. Never disregard professional advice or delay seeking it because of anything Arya has said.
9. Not a Medical or Crisis Service
Karmic Compass is a personal wellness and self-reflection tool. It is NOT a crisis service, mental health treatment, emergency service, or substitute for professional care.
The App includes a keyword-based safety feature that detects potential crisis-related language and responds with relevant helpline information. When triggered and you are not in Incognito Mode, a short excerpt of up to the first 100 characters of your message and a timestamp are stored in your cloud profile solely to provide contextually appropriate safety follow-up. This data is not shared with external agencies or emergency services.
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, suicidal thoughts, or are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services (such as 112, 911, or your local equivalent) or a crisis helpline immediately. Do not rely on this App in any emergency situation.
10. Acceptable Use of AI Features
When using Arya or any AI feature, you agree not to:
(a) rely on AI responses in emergencies or life-threatening situations;
(b) attempt to use Arya to generate unlawful, abusive, defamatory, or harmful content;
(c) attempt to manipulate, jailbreak, bypass rate limits, or exploit the AI system;
(d) submit content that violates the intellectual property or privacy rights of any third party;
(e) record or submit audio or images of third parties without their knowledge and consent;
(f) use voice transcription or image analysis for any purpose other than personal reflection and journaling.
Safety filters (BLOCK_MEDIUM_AND_ABOVE) are applied to all AI calls server-side. We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to AI features for misuse.
11. Device Permissions
• Microphone: Audio is recorded on-device, encoded as base64, and sent to Gemini via our secure proxy for transcription. The audio file is deleted from your device immediately after the request completes.
• Camera & Photo Library: Required only if you choose to attach a photo in Arya's chat. The image is resized on-device and sent as base64 to Gemini Vision. Images are not stored permanently on our servers.
• Face ID / Touch ID: Used locally on your device only for Passcode unlock. Biometric data is never transmitted to us or any third party.
• Notifications: If granted, the App schedules local on-device reminders. Notification content is generic — no personal data is included. A background task runs at most every 12 hours to reschedule notifications. No data is transmitted to our servers during this process.
All permissions can be revoked at any time from your device Settings.
12. Data Export
The App provides an "Export Data" feature in Settings that generates a PDF report containing your journal entries, chat history with Arya, wellness summary, badges, and scores. The PDF is generated on-device. If you include an optional personalised letter from Arya, one additional AI call is made to Gemini using a journey summary (not raw journal text). The exported file is unencrypted. We do not transmit or receive the exported file on our servers.
13. User Content & Licence
You retain full ownership of all journal entries, notes, voice transcriptions, images, and content you create within the App. We do not claim ownership of your User Content.
By using the App, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to process, store, transmit, and use your User Content solely to: (a) provide and operate the service; (b) maintain, secure, back up, and troubleshoot the service; (c) generate insights and AI responses you request; (d) comply with applicable law; and (e) enforce these Terms.
We do not use your personal journal content for advertising, sell it to third parties, or use it to train our own AI models without your explicit consent.
14. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
(a) use the App for any unlawful purpose;
(b) reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract source code;
(c) use automated tools, bots, or scripts to scrape or extract data from the App;
(d) impersonate any person or entity;
(e) transmit harmful, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or infringing content;
(f) attempt to gain unauthorised access to any systems, accounts, or data;
(g) interfere with or disrupt the App, its servers, or network infrastructure;
(h) attempt to circumvent server-side rate limits or subscription tier enforcement;
(i) submit audio recordings or images of third parties without their informed consent;
(j) use the App in a way that could harm other users or third parties.
15. Account Deletion & Data After Termination
You may delete your account via two routes:
(a) In-app: Settings → Account → Delete Account (requires active login). Immediately deletes all data.
(b) Email-based: contact app.karmiccompass@gmail.com or use the "Request Account Deletion" option. We send a 6-digit verification code to your registered email (valid 15 minutes); once confirmed, your account is deleted.
Both paths delete: all journal entries and chat messages, AI-generated insights, reports, your user profile, AI usage records, feedback submissions, device trial record, and your Firebase Authentication account. Residual data may persist in encrypted backup systems for up to 90 days.
16. Intellectual Property
All content, software, trademarks, logos, graphics, mindfulness audio tracks, and other materials in the App are owned by KarmicCompass Private Limited or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from App Content without our prior written consent.
17. Third-Party Services & Platform Disclaimer
The App uses the following third-party services:
• Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, App Check, Vertex AI / Gemini API) — core infrastructure.
• RevenueCat — subscription management.
• Sentry — crash and error monitoring.
• Apple App Store / Google Play — distribution and billing.
• Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In — optional authentication.
• Google Fonts CDN — app fonts loaded at startup.
• Gmail SMTP (server-side only) — used to send account deletion verification emails.
Apple Inc. and Google LLC are not parties to these Terms and bear no responsibility for the App or any claims relating to it. Any claims must be addressed to us, not to Apple or Google. Apple Inc. is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms to the extent required by Apple's standard App Store terms.
18. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components. AI-generated content is not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or appropriate for your circumstances.
19. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, KARMICCOMPASS PRIVATE LIMITED AND ITS AFFILIATES, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE APP.
OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) $10 USD.
20. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless KarmicCompass Private Limited and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or connected with your use of the App, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.
21. General Legal Provisions
Entire Agreement: These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and KarmicCompass Private Limited regarding the App.
Severability: If any provision is found to be unenforceable, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary or severed, without affecting the validity of the remaining provisions.
Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision does not constitute a waiver.
Assignment: You may not assign your rights or obligations without our prior written consent.
Force Majeure: We shall not be liable for any delay or failure resulting from causes outside our reasonable control, including acts of God, war, pandemics, natural disasters, government actions, or failure of third-party services.
Language: These Terms are made in English. In the event of conflict, the English version prevails, except where mandatory local law requires the local language version to govern.
22. Service Availability & Prohibited Jurisdictions
Karmic Compass is intended to be available globally. However, we do not actively market to or operate in jurisdictions subject to comprehensive sanctions or export controls (including countries on OFAC, EU, UN, or UK sanctions lists). By using the App, you represent that you are not located in, or a national of, any such sanctioned jurisdiction.
23. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
Primary governing law: These Terms are primarily governed by the laws of India. KarmicCompass Private Limited is the contracting entity.
For users in India: disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Chandigarh, India.
For users in the EU / EEA: the courts of your country of residence have non-exclusive jurisdiction for consumer disputes, and mandatory consumer protection laws of your country apply regardless of this clause.
For users in the United Kingdom: UK courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction for consumer disputes; UK mandatory consumer protection laws apply.
For users in the United States: to the extent permitted by law, disputes shall be resolved by binding arbitration under the JAMS rules, on an individual basis (no class actions), except where prohibited by applicable consumer protection law. You have 30 days from first use to opt out of arbitration by emailing app.karmiccompass@gmail.com with subject "ARBITRATION OPT-OUT".
For users in Brazil: Brazilian courts have jurisdiction for consumer disputes under the CDC.
For all users: nothing in this clause limits your rights under mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence.
24. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via an in-app notice or email at least 7 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes your acceptance.
